Turbulence in the Bible is more referred to as Turbulent which is listed as: disturbed; agitated or roused to violent commotion.
The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of turbulence is an airplane. The up and down, violent shaking and commotion of passengers screaming. The passengers that experience turbulence in airplanes normally scream out in fear because 1. They are not in control; 2. they don’t know what's going to come of this turbulence patch. Then once it’s over, a sense of calm or relief is normally displayed.
Your life as you know it is your airplane. You want to be in control of everything, your own pilot, but in life we go through transitions where we are not in control, and we are not the pilot. In those patches(transitions) is where we experience this turbulence. Turbulence is a patch in the air in which there is either wind or clouds that are directly impacting your flight. I want to be clear that it’s a PATCH, nothing that’s permanently in the way or in your life that causes that disruption, agitation or violent commotion continuously.
Whether you’re going through loss of employment, loss of a loved one, divorce or you just can’t seem to shake this patch in your life, lean in and Search and Seize your peace in God and believe that he cares about this phase as well. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
When those turbulent moments of commotion show up, call upon God to show up as well and do as 1 Peter 5:7 says by “casting all your anxieties on Him, because he cares for you”. Understand that you are not the pilot of your plane. When you decide to believe that Jesus is your Savior and he died for your sins, you must give Him control and believe that He can also navigate you through this turbulence that you’re experiencing just like he did before.
As you search for God, you will seize your promise. You will be able to navigate not only the turbulent times, but also the times when things are well. You will be able to confidently trust that God; the pilot of your plane, will get your through all the commotion safely without fear providing you peace.
